Extension Activities
- Contribute to the student blog. Teachers will
pose questions for student responses.
- E-mail or snail
mail the author with additional questions.
- Write postcards based on the reading. You may
use HyperStudio, Kidpix, MS Word, MS Publisher, or do the postcard by hand
and scan it for inclusion on the website. Exemplars will be published online.
Suggestion: Team up with another fourth grade class in the district and have
your students write postcards to students in the other class, using the "voice"
of one of the characters in the book. Have students try to guess who the postcard
is from.
- Read additional works from the same author to
pinpoint other real life experiences
- Role play interviews in your classroom, having
one student the interviewer and the other the interviewee, posing as a character
in the book
- Have students write a fictional work where they
use connections from their own life
- For independent reading, students may now read
other titles and complete the same activity. A variation of the question
may
be created.
